MassHousing’s new ADU loan program will offer affordable, fixed-rate second mortgages—up to $250,000 for detached and $150,000 for attached units—to help low- and moderate-income Massachusetts homeowners finance accessory dwelling unit construction. Designed to expand housing access and lower financial barriers, applications will open later this spring with flexible terms and support from statewide lenders. 

Governor Maura Healey today announced a new statewide campaign to make it easier and more affordable for residents to build accessory dwelling units (ADUs) — and North Adams is already ahead of the curve! Having just wrapped up the Small & Smart ADU Design Challenge, North Adams is leading the charge in demonstrating what’s possible as communities across Massachusetts embrace ADUs as a practical, people-centered housing solution.
