UNO Park For All Kicks Off

The UNO Park For All team met to kick off the project on June 24

The UNO Park for All project is officially underway! On June 24, project partners gathered at UNO Park to launch the initiative with a site walk, bringing community members together to begin planning the park’s transformation.

The North Adams Partnership was awarded a $15,000 AARP Community Challenge grant to improve accessibility and usability at UNO Park, building on recommendations from the Berkshire Regional Planning Commission’s Gray to Green Initiative and the City’s Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) planning process.

UNO Park has long served as an important neighborhood gathering place, but years of wear have created barriers for older adults and residents with mobility challenges. The project will introduce age-friendly improvements, including safer walking surfaces, accessible seating, improved landscaping, and new signage to create a more welcoming and comfortable park for everyone.

The work will be completed by students from McCann Technical School and Greenagers, working alongside faculty mentors, community volunteers, and local partners. In addition to revitalizing a cherished public space, the project provides students with valuable hands-on experience in construction, landscaping, and community design.

As the next step, the project team, Greenagers, and volunteers will conduct a community accessibility assessment at UNO Park on Tuesday, July 28, at 10:45 a.m. Residents are encouraged to participate by sharing their observations about how the park can better serve people of all ages and abilities.
