Roxie’s Barkery
Roxie’s Barkery is a woman-owned, family-operated pet boutique and Barkery focused on bringing high-quality, thoughtfully sourced products to pets and their people.
They specialize in all-natural dog treats and baked goods, handmade right in our on-site commercial kitchen, enrichment products, dog food, wellness products & more.
Owner McKenna Burzimati started her business in 2020 out of her love of her dog, Roxie, as well as her desire to give her healthier, better-quality treats.
She started making handmade treats and cakes in her apartment kitchen just for her dog. As friends and family learned about what she was doing for her dog, they wanted the same for theirs.
As demand increased, she expanded into her parents’ kitchen, but quickly outgrew that space too as even more customers found out about her and retailers showed interest in carrying her products.
While selling her treats at a pop-up event, McKenna heard about the Fall 2021 EforAll Business Accelerator and applied for it, looking to take her business further. “It was totally out of my comfort zone, but I knew there was so much to learn, so much I didn’t know,” she recalls.
The weekly mentor meetings proved very productive and helped her achieve her business goals. “We had a great connection. They believed in my business and knew how much I wanted it to be successful.”
In 2022, she moved her business to the NORAD Mill in North Adams with the goal of creating something that felt both high-quality and welcoming to the community. What started as a small, handmade treat operation has since evolved into a full pet store offering so much more than just handmade treats and baked goods.
Every step of growth has been very hands-on and intentional, shaped by the needs of customers and their pets, while staying true to the original mission of providing better options for the pets we love.
By the time she was ready to move into a retail space, she already built a very strong and loyal customer base, so moving into a larger space felt like a natural evolution for her business.
As for finding a space, she said she got very lucky. NORAD Mill was one of the first spaces she looked at, and they happened to have an open space. It ended up being the perfect fit and allowed me to transition from a home-based business into a dedicated retail space without having to leave the community that supported me from the very beginning. NORAD Mill owner Dave Moresi also offered her guidance as she grew her business.
McKenna was born and raised in North Adams and still lives here today. Roxie’s has created a fun, welcoming space where the community can come together. Whether someone is stopping in for a special treat, celebrating a milestone, attending one of our many events, or just browsing, their goal is to make every visit feel personal, exciting and centered around the joy pets bring us.
